Ok, I don't want to worry anybody. Nobody was literally caught in an avalanche, but Kristin and I got trapped by an avi in Whitehorse. The problem was that the road home was covered by a shit load of snow and the snow removal guys seemed to have that day off. I say that because in the morning when we left Skagway we had a lot of wind drifts in the road and nobody was up to clean up the drifts. To give you guys a bit of an idea, I am including a map.

At the bottom of the map is Fraser where the Canadian boarder is, below that is Skagway which is not marked. To get to Fraser from Skagway you have to drive over a mountain pass which gets hairy very often. Anyways there was a large avi and nobody could get into Skagway and nobody could get out. That meant a overnight stay in Whitehorse and a $109 hotel bill (and that price is normal up here).
Avi or not the day was great at Mount Sima. It was Simapaloosa with live (highschool) bands and a Skiers and Boardercross. The course looked fun but it cut off half the mountain. Next year I am considering competing and seeing how I do. We were just cruising around the mountain and enjoying all the festivities. This will be our last time riding at a resort for this season, we will have a few more splitboard missions and a trip to Valdez but that is it for this season. I don't want to head into summer yet but there is no stopping the clock. Well the few things I have to look forward to is the new skatepark here in Skagway. Look out for some reports about that, and all the seafood I will be taking straight out of the ocean.

Choppy Pow

Ohh, back in Utah. The old stomping grounds. It always feels good to come back to this part of the World. Like every year my wife, Kristin, and I go down to SLC for the Outdoor Retailer show. We always add on some days to be able to ride the best snow on earth. This year it was a little scary...

20" of fresh POW

Had a late start and weather wasn't the best. 25-30mph winds with 50mph gusts but the snow was good. The night before we got 20" on top so there was no backing out. Driving through 2' wind drifts and parts of the Pass with 0 visibility we made it to a small zone that is an easy access from the...

Hip deep blower pow!

We had a late start in the mourning. We are just a little rusty getting all the gear together. We drove up the Highway and assest the situation. Snow cover looked good so we stopped at a zone called Fraiser Meadows. For a warm up we had to dig out our parking spot.

Epic

This is long over due. That is why I am packing three Ride Reports into one. Powder Mountain was awesome as usual. Unfortunately the roof came down on us and you couldn't see your hand in front of your face. The mourning was great and I would have had more footage if I would have checked my...

Crusty with 2" powder on top

It was a quick but good day today. Skinned up to the top strapped in and headed down. The goal of the trip was to see if there is enough snow and to try out the GoPro Hero HD. I have to say I love that camera. If you have the money don't think about it and buy it. Photo and film shot with the...

Shadow goodness, Sun bakedness

Sorry for the lateness of this ride report. Work is starting to take over my time, which means summer is around the corner and for some reason it hurts more this year then any other! I am not sure why that is maybe because this winter I worked really hard to get my turns. When I worked for the...

Hardpack with some Dusting on top

Oh Mount Sima! It is a nice little resort in the Yukon. There are a whopping three lifts. One old two seater Riblet, which takes you to the top of the mountain(in 15 minutes). A beginners rope tow, and a t-bar which never runs(at least everytime I am there). This is the resort I can reach with...
