Sunny and surfy.

Well, I have been slacking in the ride reports and a broken camera and lost Vholder do not help my motivation. Nonetheless, after seeing PB's solid last two reports-I am back on it.

I have been hiking Alta's Ski-only resort for the last two weeks straight that I have been at home. We have been fortunate enough to get a few freeze cycles at night which has made the snow fast-and I mean legitimately fast, as well as nice for both skinning and snowshoeing up to places like Devil's Castle.

The days have been long and beautifully bluebird. Trudging uphill, and riding down Alta's sweet natural gullies-this place really needs to open to snowboarding-has become my morning staple followed by beers in the parking lot and a bbq. It's hard to believe that it's June 14th, I will put more pics up of Alta and more from Snowbird and Snowbasin (which are still open on the weekends).

Tue, 03/20/2012 White Pine Canyon

Temperature: 38F
Conditions:

Hot going up, hot coming down. Untracked powder looked nice going up but was slow on the back-down.

We started mid-afternoon the absolute wrong time of day to go during Spring, however work and kids what are you going to do besides go when you can. We left the parking lot and hiked only for about thirty to forty minutes, strapped in and discovered the world's slowest snow. Barely making our...

Mon, 03/12/2012 BCC & Solitude

Conditions:

Anywhere from greybird to bluebird. High speed groomers to left over tree slashing.

I have been off the computer for the last two weeks, for the most part, as my wife and I just had our second child. Hence the no-ride report updates... although, I have been fortunate enough to get out and make some turns and even get a mellow hike in with the boys. The same old story prevails,...

Sun, 01/22/2012 Solitude, Headwall Trees

Temperature: 34F
Conditions:

Pow, warm pow, hot pow, cement.

*All images: Forrest Gladding Fun day. This was my first real (kind of) pow day this season. BCC received about 8" of fresh (12" in loaded spots), heavy goodness. We schralped some upper bowls and headed to Summit Chair for greater top-to-bottom. The three of us dropped into some tree chute;...

Tue, 12/20/2011 SLC & Big Cotton

Temperature: 17F
Conditions:

Greybird to Bluebird. Fast and icy as hell. Snow sucks-do not call in sick to go riding, so not worth it.

Grim. Grim is one word to describe the post apocalyptic conditions of the greater Salt Lake City area. A strong ridge of high pressure has set-up an invisibly strong barer to clear and clean weather. The smog-or as the weather people on the news refer to it as, ''haze'', has become that of thick...

Fri, 12/02/2011 Solitude

Temperature: 32F
Conditions:

Sunny and fast.

I met up with Forrest in the bottom of BCC parking lot. We carpooled up to Soli, strapped-in and had a way fun mini-shred session of high speed lappers, butters and 180s. We still need 3-8 feet of snow to make it just right. Our day was spent mocking runs and slashing turns... which almost got my...

Mon, 11/07/2011 Brighton Ski Resort

Temperature: 30F
Conditions:

Greybird, chewed-up ice blocks and suga'pow.

We pulled up to Solitude where they have been grooming the snow into velvet. It looked and felt great on the boot pack up; soft pack pow. As we were about a third of the way up from the base lodge (lower lot) a snow cat came barreling down towards us-''fellas, the resort is not open and there is...
